We’ve had a week of very good news!
It all began with the failed assassination of President Trump.
I got the news a few minutes later when I was on the Las Vegas airport tarmac. I was waiting to take off and head back to Minneapolis from the FreedomFest 2024 event, where I gave a speech to an enthusiastic crowd. I agree with the many who say it was divine intervention – God’s grace – that saved the president.
In more good news for freedom . . . Trump’s “classified documents” case was dismissed. The federal judge used the excellent Constitution-based concurrence written by Justice Clarence Thomas, which I read in its entirety when the Supreme Court ruling was published. Then Trump picked as his running mate the stalwart U.S. Senator J.D. Vance from Ohio, who vigorously opposed COVID vaccine and mask mandates.
Now for the bad news . . .
The 59th anniversary of Medicare on July 30th is not a cause for celebration. What began in 1965 as a promise of quality health care for seniors now teeters on the brink of total financial collapse.
Medicare will be insolvent in 2036, able to pay only 89% of its bills. If you’re in Medicare today, you know what a welfare program Medicare is. Look how poorly doctors are paid. Federal regulators want to cut these payments by another 2.8 percent. This is why Congress is pushing seniors into Medicare Advantage plans, which by law can limit access to doctors and deny access to care.
Seniors desperately need an escape hatch from Medicare. I first wrote this in 2007, and it’s still true today.
If President Trump is re-elected, CCHF will go after the Executive Order 13890 (Section 11) that we secured to let seniors voluntarily opt out of Medicare and still get their Social Security benefits. That October 2019 EO was derailed by COVID-19 and rescinded by Biden, but we are determined to get it back.
Health freedom is impossible without the right to be free from Medicare. Federal officials use Medicare regulations to control the entire health care system.
Let’s all celebrate the good news of the past week – and continue to work together to make health freedom a reality across America.
